Dense Concrete Aggregate Blocks

Dense aggregate blocks are the most versatile of concrete blocks. They are very durable and robust and have excellent loadbearing and sound insulation properties. Standard blocks have an open texture for plastering, rendering, cladding or drylining, but they are also available with a closer texture suitable for painting. Dense blocks can be used in virtually any part of a building project, above or below ground. They are suitable for party walls and for use in beam & block flooring. Dense blocks are solid, but a hollow configuration is also available in the 215×215 block.

The dry density of the blocks is measured in kg per m3, and is around 1800-2000 kg/m3 depending on the size, texture, and manufacturer of the block.

Compressive strength is measured in Newtons per mm2. Blocks are available in a range of sizes, strengths, and textures.

Lightweight Medium Density Aggregate Blocks (Breeze Blocks)

Lightweight aggregate blocks are often called “breeze blocks” and are for general use. They are very durable and robust and have excellent loadbearing and sound insulation properties, plus better thermal characteristics than dense blocks. Standard blocks have an open texture for plastering, rendering, cladding or drylining, but they are also available with a closer texture suitable for painting.

Lightweight blocks are suitable for above ground building work or below ground if a 7.3N strength block is used. A 7.3N block can also be used in beam & block flooring.

The dry density of the blocks is measured in kg per m3, and is around 1350-1500 kg/m3 depending on the size, texture, and manufacturer of the block.

Compressive strength is measured in Newtons per mm2. Blocks are available in range of sizes, strengths, and textures.

Ultra Lightweight Aggregate Blocks

An Ultra Lightweight Aggregate block is now available, manufactured from a blend of lightweight aggregates and cement. It is a general purpose masonry unit of low density and weight. The 3.6N variant has a weight of approximately 9kg compared to 13-14kg for the standard lightweight equivalent.

The dry density of the blocks is measured in kg per m3, and is around 850 kg/m3 depending on the size, texture, and manufacturer of the block.

Foundation Blocks

A foundation block is available specifically for use below DPC in solid walls. The blocks have recessed grooves to aid lifting. Using foundation blocks can significantly reduce construction time compared to traditional construction methods. Foundation blocks are 300x275x140mm in size and can be laid with either 275mm or 300mm as the wall width.

Foundation blocks have a compressive strength of 7.3N/mm2.

Aircrete Blocks

Aircrete Blocks are a modern construction block that combine a low unit weight with high thermal insulation, and excellent acoustic properties. They are significantly lighter in weight than traditional building blocks. They are easy to handle and quick to install, and are suitable for finishing with render, cladding, plaster or drylining.

The dry density of the blocks is measured in kg per m3, and is around 630 kg/m3 depending on the size, specification and manufacturer of the block.

Compressive strength is measured in Newtons per mm2. Blocks are available in range of sizes, strengths, and properties.
